Robert Redford Returns to Broadway

October 21, 2006

Movie icon Robert Redford will return to Broadway after being offered the lead role in Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons.” Redford is reportedly excited about returning to the White Lights of Broadway in New York City to star in this 1947 play about a businessman who knowingly sold faulty airplane parts to the US Air Force during World War II.

While many people wonder if the 69 year-old Redford has what it takes to put on eight performances a week on Broadway, sources close to the actor say that he has been looking to get back on stage for the past couple of years.

Robert Redford returns to Broadway

Redford hasn’t been on Broadway since he appeared in Neal Simon’s early hit, “Barefoot in the Park” in 1967. Now the big question is, “Will Redford be a box-office draw?” Considering what Paul Newman was able to do a few years ago with a revival of “Our Town,” an Arthur Miller revival with Redford would probably be a hot ticket.

Redford’s show wont be the only hot ticket in town. Fans looking to get their hands on Broadway Tickets can always count on Stubhub as the best place to get tickets with ease.

The Broadway Lineup

October 17, 2006

What’s on tap for Broadway this season?

Variety is the spice of life and this will certainly be true this season on Broadway.  Fans can choose from all sorts of newcomers, old-timers and revivals under the White Lights and on Broadway.

How about the music?  The sound of Broadway this fall will include the music of Stephen Sondheim, Bob Dylan, Marvin Hamlisch, Tom Stoppard, George Bernard Shaw, Victor Hugo, P.L. Travers and Dr. Seuss just to name a few.  As usual, musicals will dominate the scene

“A Chorus Line” could be the season’s most important production.  This is the show fans have been waiting for a long time and audiences have not been let down.  This thing is “alive and kicking” says Scott Harrah of The Villager

“Les Miserables” is also getting ready to set up barricades on Broadway this season.  Set amidst comedy musicals such as Spamalot, Les Miz promises to offer audiences a larger-than-life, serious musical that has left audiences in awe for years.

This is an exciting time to be on Broadway and fans are fighting just for a space in line to pick up tickets.  Variety is the name of the game this season and fans hoping to get Broadway Tickets need to act quickly.  Though the show must go on, the tickets go fast and when they do, are gone for good.

Usher on Broadway

October 17, 2006

The hip hop artist will make an appearance in Broadway’s Chicago.

It seems that everybody wants to be seen on a Broadway stage.  And once you’ve been on stage, it’s hard to quit.

Just ask Usher.

Hip hop artist Usher is set to return to a Broadway production of ‘Chicago’ after being out of the hit musical since Friday with an illness.

The Five-Time Grammy Award winner has been starring as Billy Flynn in the Ambassador Theater production of ‘Chicago.’  He has recently extended that role through Saturday, at which time he will be succeeded by Christopher McDonald.

Usher is no stranger to lights, cameras and audiences, but this is his first appearance on Broadway.  ‘Chicago’ won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997.

Broadway fans are not normally fickle.  But when it was announced that Usher would not be appearing this weekend due to a bout of the flu, fans lined up outside the Ambassador Theater demanding refunds.

Usher will only be under the lights for a few more days, so fans looking to get their hands on Broadway Tickets need to act soon.

Jennifer Aniston and other Hollywood stars to appear on Broadway

Broadway might like to keep itself apart from the dirty gossip of Hollywood, but sometimes, worlds collide.

Jennifer Aniston will appear on Broadway, and will reportedly join 23 other stars including Rosie Perez, Lili Taylor and SNL’s Rachel Dratch in a series of ‘shorts.’

Aniston will be among those writing, directing and acting in six, 10-minute plays at the American Airlines Theater in New York.

All this is part of the sixth annual, “24 Hour Plays on Broadway.”  The event will benefit Working Playground, a non-profit arts program for New York City schoolchildren.

Broadway has always been seen as one of the ‘must-sees’ of New York City.  This fall, musicals will dominate the sounds of Broadway.  The music of Broadway will include Stephen Sondheim, Bob Dylan, Marvin Hamlisch.

Donny Osmond Back on Broadway

October 17, 2006

Broadway Actor Donny Osmond returns to Broadway in Beauty and the Beast.

Someone told me once, you can’t go home. But I figure, sometimes, you really can.  At least that seems to be the case on Broadway with Donny Osmond returning to the Broadway scene for the first time in twenty-five years.

Donny Osmond’s last performance on Broadway was in the sunny but creaky George M. Cohan vehicle Little Johnny Jones in 1982.  Osmond successfully handled Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on the road and has now returned to Broadway as Gaston in Beauty and the Beast.

This year also marks a big year for Beauty.  On April 18th, the show celebrated its 12th anniversary on Broadway.  The production played its 5,000 performance on June 20th.

Tickets are available for Beauty and the Beast as well as any number of Broadway shows.  Fans wishing to purchase Broadway Tickets should act soon to guarantee seats come show time.

Broadway for Dummies

October 17, 2006

Ventriloquist comes to Broadway with a cast of characters to speak with.

One-man shows may not be anything new to audiences on Broadway.  But when that one man show is ventriloquist Jay Johnson and his assortment of characters, are you talking about a one man show or have you crossed into some form of duo?

Jay Johnson and his dummy Bob, (perhaps ‘Wooden American’ would be the politically correct term) first made an appearance thirty years ago on television.  Jesse Green writes for the New York Times, “It is a sign of how far they’ve come, and how far Broadway has too.”

“Jay Johnson: The Two and Only,” is actually just one of many new shows coming to Broadway this season.  “A Chorus Line” opened the September 18th, ‘Jay Johnson’ the 19th, and Nixon’s Nixon opened the 20th.

Broadway shows reign as one of the ‘to-dos’ of New York.  Twenty-five years ago, “Nicholas Nickleby” became the first show to sell a $100 ticket.  It was not until 1991 that “Miss Saigon” became the next show to cross the threshold.  Of the twenty shows now on Broadway, 17 have hit the century mark.

Broadway lights up the night sky every night in New York.  Fans looking for Broadway Tickets can always find something that is sure to entertain.

Broadway Shows this Season

October 17, 2006

Broadway is offering a range of shows this season that will delight audiences

No trip to New York City is complete without enjoying a night at a Broadway show.  Whether you are interested in singing and dancing puppets (Avenue Q), fart jokes and the Knights who say Ni (Spamalot), or if a good murder musical (Chicago) is your thing, Broadway never disappoints for lack of options.

Spamalot reigns as the hottest show right now on Broadway, with Tarzan coming in second place for ticket sales.  M any new shows opened in September.  ‘Nixon’s Nixon’ opened on September 20 and ‘Losing Louie’ opened the following day.

Ben Sisario conveys the true significance of Broadway in New York in an article published in the New York Times.  “Broadway is one of the great symbolic cultural forces in New York, representing ambition and its demands, success and its risks, and the magical power of song and dance to separate people from their money.”

While thousands of people spend hours in line for Broadway tickets, it is possible to get Broadway Tickets online.  Tickets for Avenue Q range from $139 to $349 while tickets for Spamalot range from $99 to $278, just to name a few of the options that are out there.
