The newest musical to his the Great White Way is LoveMusik and it opened last night, May 3, 2007. Starring Michael Cerveris as Kurt Weill and Donna Murphy as Lotte Lenya, this musical is Manhattan Theatre Club’s project and opened at the Biltmore Theater.
LoveMusik follows the lives of two of the most unlikely lovers, the intelligent and brilliant German composer Kurt Weill and the women who would become his muse and star, Lotte Lenya. Telling this love story through letters, this show features a book by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winner Alfred Uhry who also wrote Driving Miss Daisy and Parade, as well as musical staging by Patricia Birch who also has A Little Night Music to her credit. Directed by 21-time Tony Award-winner Harold Prince, who is known for, among many others, The Phantom of the Opera, Cabaret and Sweeney Todd.
