Xanadu Announced!

It has been announced that Xanadu will be the first Broadway musical to open in the new reason which will being on Tuesday, June 26, 2007. This particular musical adaptation of the cult classic film will play at the Helen Hayes Theater, and already promises quite an excited reception based solely on the subject matter, never mind the undoubtedly talented stars that have been brought into the roles made famous by the likes of Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly.

Kerry Butler will originate the role of “Kira” – Newton-John’s role in the film – while James Carpinello will play Sonny, Tony Roberts will play “Danny” – Kelly’s role in the film version – and Jackie Hoffman and Mary Testa will take on the roles of the evil Muses “Calliope” and “Melpomene.”

Yes indeed, if you are looking forward to watching human fall in love with alien, with all the big-haired singing and dancing that made this film an underground hit in certain circles, then mark  your calendars in June because the excitement is coming to live onstage!
