The circle of life in the African desert is crowding around Disney’s Broadway production of “The Lion King.” There is no doubt that the animal kingdom approves of the hit movie turned musical. In fact there was such uproar over its pre-planned exit set for October 7 that the producers decided to postpone the last show until December 2. The South Africans couldn’t be more pleased. The audience’s response to the uplifting story and the incredible personification of animals by the actors is a tremendous success for the touring Broadway hit musical.
The creators and sponsors behind the smash hit have also stenciled in an opportunity for the little tykes of Johannesburg to enjoy the show free of charge. The Walt Disney Company and Telkom have joined forces to allow 38,000 children and teenagers to watch “The Lion King,” without having to fork over an admission fee. “The Lion King” tells the coming of age story of Simba, the lion cub, who is forced to grasp the prospect of taking over the role of king upon his father’s death. He must face the oncoming challenges and the threats from his enemies to finally find his place in the circle of life. “The Lion King” has won numerous awards including one for Best Musical.
