Jonathan Crombie Will Join the Drowsy Cast in Spring

The charismatic Canadian actor is back and he’s filling that overstuffed easy chair with his interpretation of the character, Man in Chair in Broadway’s hit musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone.”  Jonathan Crombie is widely known for his role as Gilbert Blythe in the popular Canadian mini-series “Anne of Green Gables.”  His first appearance in the smash hit musical about a man obsessed with Broadway shows was on March 13, 2007.  He retained the role for a little over a month until Tony Award winner took over the act for several months.  Glover’s last performance as Man in Chair will be on August 19.

Spring Awakening is an Enlightening Hit Among the Younger Generation!

This surprise success speaks to the disillusioned and alienated teenage generation. Finally, a musical that isn’t just geared to the stiff, old patrons that continually crowd playhouses across the country, Spring Awakening is a show you can bring your first date to and not feel like it will be a total disaster. True you might have to jump in a cold shower after witnessing the erotic sex scene on stage, but this play is a far cry from ordinary. Lion King is a Roaring Success in South Africa!

The circle of life in the African desert is crowding around Disney’s Broadway production of “The Lion King.”  There is no doubt that the animal kingdom approves of the hit movie turned musical.  In fact there was such uproar over its pre-planned exit set for October 7 that the producers decided to postpone the last show until December 2.  The South Africans couldn’t be more pleased.  The audience’s response to the uplifting story and the incredible personification of animals by the actors is a tremendous success for the touring Broadway hit musical.

The creators and sponsors behind the smash hit have also stenciled in an opportunity for the little tykes of Johannesburg to enjoy the show free of charge. Lance Bass Gets ‘N Sync With Hairspray

The former boy band member who once shared the stage with Justin Timberlake is going to be sharing the stage with a different crowd these days.  It’s the 60’s crowd of the hit Broadway show, Hairspray and Lance Bass joins the cast on August 14 as Corny, the charismatic TV dance show host. The ‘N Sync bandmate is once again in unison with a singing and dancing sensation, and this time it doesn’t look like he’ll be going “bye, bye, bye” anytime soon.  It is reported that he will retain the role through Jan. 6 2008.

Hairspray the Broadway hit that has been recently been released as a film starring John Travolta is celebrating its fifth anniversary on Broadway August 15.  It follows the story of dance-obsessed Tracy Turnblad who is subsequently transformed from an overweight unknown fancy dancer to a bubbling teen celebrity.  The play follows her rise to fame and her desire to find her place within the celebrity highlife and her determination to find true love.  Hairspray is the winner of eight 2003 Tony Awards and is currently playing at the Neil Simon Theatre in New York City.  Get your Hairspray tickets at Stubhub.com.

Get A Closer Look at the Jersey Boys!

The Journey to Jersey Boys is the title of a small presentation, taking place on August 13 in New York City, and it tells the personal stories of the five performers who make Frankie Valli and his family jump to life on stage.  It is a way to get to know the actors as both themselves and the characters they portray while they are dancing and singing in front of sold out audiences on Broadway.  It is a rare occurrence to get an intimate glimpse into the lives and minds of actors, as we so often are influenced by our perceptions of them playing someone else.  The presentation is a great way to not only expose the real lives of the performers but to also understand how and why they were influenced by the people they play on the stage.

Xanadu Is Scheduled For a Nationwide Tour

Ok, so you might have no idea how to pronounce it, but you remain curious about it.  What is this musical that has taken the New York theatre-going patrons hostage?  Xanadu has gotten so popular that now it has officially been decided that the crowd-pleasing play will tour across the country.  Beginning in the summer of 2008 Xanadu will be in theatres nationwide.  Grab your coat and hat, or a fancy dress and make a date for 2008, find out the real story as the curtain rises on Xanadu.

The Drowsy Chaperone is Ready to Tour!

The theatre performers who have been chosen to tour with the Tony Award-winning musical better not be sleepy.  They are in for the long hall.  A few of the actors who have recently been added to the cast and have prominent roles in the show are Cliff Bemis, Andrea Chamberlain and Robert Dorfman.  These new additions join Bob Martin, Nancy Opel and Georgia Engel in the traveling musical about a reclusive theatre fan that is obsessed with musicals and has a particular favorite; can you guess what it is?  Yup, a 1928 production called The Drowsy Chaperone.  When the solitary man, named Man in Chair plays the scratchy record in his tattered and bare apartment, the musical comes to life before his eyes.

Anthony Rapp Prepares to Chat it Up

The notable actor from the Broadway smash hit, “Rent,” is going to spill the beans.  On Aug. 9, Anthony Rapp is scheduled to sit down for a buzz session with host Seth Rudestsky on his weekly live talk show, Chatterbox.  Anthony Rapp is best known for his creation of the role of the Mark Cohen character in Rent.  Mark, a documentary film maker turns his lens on the lives and times of his friends as they struggle to survive and create in New York’s Alphabet Village.  The plotline follows these young artists and musicians as they learn to cope with the ever present and real fear of AIDS looming over their shoulders.

Those Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Bare it All!

Well, it’s official: the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels are getting down, dirty and scandalous. That’s right, the cast of the famed play will be baring it all in the Windy City, so all you fans out there should be prepared to be blown away! Of course don’t think that this group is part of the brazen and lewd crowd. Throwing five dollars their way might get you a sock, but nothing more. No, despite their name, the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels are stripping for an honorable cause. The Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a musical that follows the hilarious fortunes and misfortunes of two con men residing in the French Riviera. The two men Lawrence Jameson, played by Keith Carradine and Freddy Benson, played by Brian D’Arcy James couldn’t be more different in their tactics to extract the goods from the naïve and affluent ladies living among them. Their warring to become “top con” is what makes this play all the more enjoyable and in the end it is determined that the small little French town is just not big enough for the two of them. Casting Complete For Lonestar Love!

Good news for all you Broadway buffs that have been anticipating the opening of the Southern adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor. Casting is officially complete for Lonestar Love. A few of the lucky theatrical actors that will be joining Randy Quaid, Robert Cuccioli and Dee Hoty on the stage are Lauren Kennedy, Clarke Thorell and Ramona Keller. They also join director and choreographer Randy Skinner as well as the members of The Red Clay Ramblers, whose New Orleans style of folk and gospel sounds will be an integral part of the long-awaited production.

The comical play follows the life of Colonel John Falstaff who happily flirts with the wives of two wealthy cattle ranchers, his eyes not only on the lusty ladies, but on the fortunes of their affluent husbands. It is expected to be a jovial, knee-slapping good time as theatre patrons are transported back into the days of the Wild West and back to the days when cow thieving, wife stealing, and money plundering are just common-place occurrences.
