Not Forbidden to Open Up

Several members of the hit production “Forbidden Broadway: Rude Awakening” have allowed an insight into their thoughts and opinions when they shared a question and answer session with the folks from Playbill News.  Janet Dickinson, Valerie Fagan, Jared Bradshaw and James Donegan were all in the hotseat while they answered questions about their favorite Broadway musicals, auditions and how it is doing impersonations.  Fagan relived her most memorable onstage mishap, when, while performing in the “Sound of Music” the character playing the Captain walked off the stage.  She hurriedly made up a story to try and work the unrehearsed actions into the plot, and as she says, she went into an “adrenaline induced horror.”

Not often do we get the chance to glimpse into the real lives of the actors up on stage portraying fake lives.  This interview, conducted by Playbill is a real treat to find out the inside scoop behind these talented performers.  If anyone thought it was somehow easy to be a big name Broadway star, this interview might change their views.  Of course, it also shows that being the star of stage can also be great fun.  Take a moment to check out their responses on Playbill’s webpage and while you are at it, make a date to see Forbidden Broadway: Rude Awakening.  Get your tickets at Stubhub.com.

The Line Up for A Chorus Line

Come May 2008 this singing and dancing musical production will have hit the road.  Their first stop is at the Buell Theatre in Denver, Colorado during the engagement of May 4-17 of next year.  The excitement is already in the air and the anticipation mounts for this well-known and well-received spectacular production.  The musical is among a list of many other shows that will play at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, which include “My Fair Lady,” “Avenue Q” and “The Drowsy Chaperone.”

The musical is literally about a chorus line.  The story follows the lives of several members of a chorus line that are being chosen for an upcoming production.  The interesting aspects into their personal lives are revealed and ultimately eight dance members are chosen to perform in the production.  A Chorus Line is an intimate look at the dancers who are in the background and not front and center.  This is perhaps what makes this show interesting.  Instead of focusing on the star of the production the whole show is based on the lives of those who are performing in the background.  Don’t miss this intimate and carefully thought out musical, get your A Chorus Line tickets today at Stubhub.com.

Love is Not Scheduled For Broadway

Broadway is not on the schedule anymore for the new musical called “Lone Star Love,” that is currently playing at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre.  The decision came after the out-of-town tryout in Washington State.  The official announcement says that “Upcoming plans for the production will be announced when they are available.”  No official word on why the musical, inspired by Shakespeare’s “The Merry Wives of Windsor” has been canceled, though some speculate it is because the turn-out for the much anticipated production was not as great as originally hoped.

If the show went on to the Big Apple, it would have been the Broadway debut of actor Randy Quaid, who plays the lead role in this quirky and hilarious adaptation of Shakespeare’s story which is transplanted in the Wild West, taking place shortly after the Civil War.  The Red Clay Ramblers are also present in the production, who lead an onstage band.  Of course this by no means implies doom for the comical musical and tickets are still available to see the show in Seattle.  Make sure to get your Lone Star Love tickets at Stubhub.com.

Who Said Being a Broadway Star Was Easy?

Actor Hal Holbrook, the star of the Broadway hit “Our Town,” is currently recovering. After contracting a virus, in part due to his relentless dedication to the production, his doctor told him to take it easy. Often times the problem is: many of us just don’t listen when our doc says the best medicine is a few days of rest on the couch and a bowl of mom’s nearly medicinal homemade chicken noodle soup. But when your livelihood is the stage, you very well cannot perform with aching limbs and a gruff voice. Robert Hannon Davis will take over the role as Stage Manager this week for the Connecticut Company’s rendition of the famed “Our Town.”

Hal Holbrook first made his Broadway debut in “Do You Know the Milky Way?” and he has since appeared in many different stage productions throughout the years. In 1966 he was awarded a Tony for Best Actor in a Play for his solo show called “Mark Twain Tonight.” He has also appeared in “After the Fall,” “Marco Millions,” “Incident at Vichy,” Tartuffe,” “The Glass Menagerie,” “Man of La Mancha,” “The Apple Tree,” “I Never Sang for My Father,” “Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie?” and “An American Daughter.” Not to mention that he has also made appearances in many different films. It’s no wonder the actor needs a much needed rest! See Hal Holbrook; get a pair of Our Town tickets at Stubhub.com.

From Daughter to Mom-Judy Kuhn Returns to Les Miz!

Judy Kuhn is well known for playing Broadway’s original Cosette in the acclaimed production of Les Miserables.  Now she returns, although this time she plays mother instead of daughter.  It’s been twenty years since her portrayal of the much loved and sought after Cosette and now she takes the stage in place of Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, whose final performance will be October 21.  Kuhn was quoted as saying: “I am thrilled to be returning to Les Miserables after all these years.  To go back to play the mother of the character I played originally, especially now that I am a mother myself will be great fun.”

Judy Kuhn has been nominated three times for her work on Broadway.  She has appeared in “Chess,” “She loves Me,” and “Rags,” and has since developed a dedicated following of fans.  Perhaps most recently she was seen in a new adaptation of Chekhov’s “Three Sisters” and she co-starred in the world premiere of “The Highest Yellow,” at the Signature Theatre in Virginia.  Kuhn is obviously no stranger to the world of Broadway and her return to Les Miz is a much anticipated one.  Be sure to catch Judy Kuhn in an upcoming performance in New York, get your Les Miserables tickets as soon as possible!
