Fifty Years Later and the Story From the West Side Still Remains a Popular Hit

The classic production which takes place on Manhattan’s Upper West Side celebrates its fifty year anniversary on September 26 marking a milestone for the long running production that has long captured the attention and interest of theatre-going fanatics from around the globe.  It truly is a modern version of Shakespeare’s famous tale of two star-crossed lovers.  West Side Story takes place among the alleyways and New York streets where rival gangs are constantly challenging each other, only to end up with one or both sides bleeding needlessly.  It first drew back the curtain in 1957 and was greatly welcomed with favorable reviews.  Four years later it was made into a movie and West Side Story became an instant hit.
