Hairspray Heads to the West End!

a Glimpse Into the World of Sutton Foster
Recently the stage actress Sutton Foster of the musical Young Frankenstein gave Playbill News an interview. She is a Tony Award winner and has appeared in many different shows since her entrance onto the stage in the early 1990s. She certainly has come a long way in those relatively few years and now everyone who’s obsessed or associated with Broadway musicals knows her name.
Foster first got her start in the production of Les Miserables and then in the 1994 revival of Grease! She also appeared in the revival of Annie and was featured in the ensemble of The Scarlet Pimpernel. She then landed her breakthrough role as Millie Dillmount in Thoroughly Modern Millie. That was where she won her Tony Award. Later she went on to star in Little Women and also in the hit The Drowsy Chaperone. Now she is back on Broadway in what some are calling her most high profile assignment yet. It is of course Young Frankenstein and Foster brings her top of the line acting abilities to this rendition of the classic Mel Brooks film. The stars from the hit Broadway show, Avenue Q are set to appear on the CW Morning News Program on October 26. Stars Mary Faber, with Kate Monster and Christian Anderson with Trekkie Monster will be offering tips for Halloween trick or treaters on the program. Production Gets Smoked Out
The world premiere of the brand new musical, “A Catered Affair” has been put on hold after the ongoing California wildfires that at this time show no sign of letting up. A statement released by the executive director of the Old Globe Theatre says that “Although The Old Globe itself is not in immediate danger, several staff members and patrons have been affected by the devastating fire situation. We wanted to cancel performances in order to give them peace of mind in dealing with the security of their families and to ensure their safety by not having them make the possibly dangerous drive into Balboa Park.”
More than one dozen wildfires have burned across seven counties in California, including Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego. At this time more than 1,000 homes have been destroyed and the number of people that have been evacuated is close to 900,000. The musical, “A Catered Affair” will run through November 11 and has spectacular music by Harvey Fierstein and composer John Bucchino. Caulfield Joins Chicago Cast!
A new addition will be added to the cast of Chicago come the month of November. His name is Maxwell Caulfield and you may know him from his previous stage and screen work in TV soap operas such as “Dynasty” and “The Colbys.” Caulfield has experience in this widely adored production as he has previously taken on the role of Billy Flynn in London. Luckily this talented actor will reprise his role as the slick lawyer for New Yorkers.
Caulfield will begin his adaptation of Flynn starting on November 19 and he will be staying with the show until December 2. Along with the arrival of Maxwell Caulfield, “Sopranos” stars Aida Turtorro and Vincent Pastore who are scheduled to assume the roles of Matron “Mama” Morton and Amos Hart. Chicago is well known for winning the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 and is also noted for the unforgettable performances of many of its talented actors including Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton.
