Production Gets Smoked Out

The world premiere of the brand new musical, “A Catered Affair” has been put on hold after the ongoing California wildfires that at this time show no sign of letting up. A statement released by the executive director of the Old Globe Theatre says that “Although The Old Globe itself is not in immediate danger, several staff members and patrons have been affected by the devastating fire situation. We wanted to cancel performances in order to give them peace of mind in dealing with the security of their families and to ensure their safety by not having them make the possibly dangerous drive into Balboa Park.”

More than one dozen wildfires have burned across seven counties in California, including Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego. At this time more than 1,000 homes have been destroyed and the number of people that have been evacuated is close to 900,000. The musical, “A Catered Affair” will run through November 11 and has spectacular music by Harvey Fierstein and composer John Bucchino.
