Hairspray Heads to the West End!

The previews have already begun and theatre patrons are trembling with excitement at the recent news that the famed production Hairspray is set to open today, October 30 at the West End’s Shaftesbury Theatre.  In this particular production Michael Ball and Leanne Jones take on the starring roles while the British comedy actor and director Mel Smith makes his musical debut as the husband, Wilbur.  It truly is exciting news that this musical, which has garnered such worldwide attention is going to be showing at London’s theatre district.  Theatre goers should buy their tickets soon so that they can sing along to all of the catchy tunes.

The show is based on Mark O’Donnell’s book that is set in 1960s Baltimore.  According to press notes the plot “follows the fortunes of ‘pleasantly plump’ Baltimore teenager Tracy Turnblad, who yearns to perform in the Corny Collins Dance Show.”  She is then subsequently transformed overnight from outsider to teen celebrity.  Her next mission is to vanquish the program’s reigning princess, win the heart of heartthrob Link Larkin and integrate a television show.  Sounds like a lot of work?  No doubt that it is, but it surely is a joy to watch onstage.  Get your Hairspray tickets today!
