The epic story of Les Miserables will make the journey to Los Angeles this summer appearing at the famous Hollywood Bowl. The scheduled dates all take place in August, in the evening. According to a press release by the Hollywood Bowl, “An all-star cast and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra will bring you this sweeping story of love, passion and redemption.” Les Miserables is based on the classic novel by Victor Hugo. It was first presented by Cameron Mackintosh and The Royal Shakespeare Company at the Barbican Theatre in October of 1985. The musical has won eight 1987 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
In addition the Bowl is expecting other great acts this summer including: Julie Andrews: The Gift of Music; which will include songs from The Sound of Music, The King &I and Cinderella. The Seafarer will make its final appearance at Broadway’s Booth Theatre on March 30, as announced on Playbill.com. The Seafarer will have played 19 previews and 133 regular performances. It has been a big hit with fans and has a talented and an engaging cast who helps bring to life Irish playwright Conor McPherson’s supernatural-steeped play. Currently the Broadway company features Ciaran Hinds, Conleth Hill, Sean Mahon, David Morse and Jim Norton. It is directed by McPherson himself.

The announcements are officially in. The winners in this year’s Critics’ Circle Awards include the London production of Hairspray and Rupert Goold’s production of Macbeth. Six lucky ladies from the cast of the Tony-winning musical Spring Awakening have joined other artists, all of whom have banded together to take part in Broadway Backwards III. The flip-flopped singing show is scheduled for February 4 at the American Airlines Theatre. The Broadway Backwards concert features male singers performing songs that are traditionally sung by women and women singing tunes that are written for men. The event will be hosted by “The Ritz’s” Seth Rudetsky. The newcomers from Spring Awakening are: Lilli Cooper, Lea Michele, Eryn Murman, Phoebe Strole, Jenna Ushkowitz and Remy Zaken. They are scheduled to perform a song from Spring Awakening that honors the evening’s gender-bending concept.
Broadway Backwards is a benefit for New York’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center. The event’s creator Robert Bartley will direct the benefit with the help of Mark Janas for musical direction. A party will take place after the show wraps up. The Broadway musical titled “The Color Purple” will play its final performance on February 24 at the Broadway Theatre. Lead producer Scott Sanders had some poignant parting words describing his feelings on the production and the impact that it had on audiences. Tonight is the night that stage actress Miriam Margolyes re-creates her performance for New York audiences when she joins the Wicked cast on Broadway.
