The well-received Broadway production of “Come Back, Little Sheba” is back in lights in the nation’s most popular theater district. The show begins tonight at the Manhattan Theater Club’s Biltmore Theatre. The production has an official start date of January 24. The dramatic tale takes place in the 1950s and revolves around the story of a marriage tainted by booze and threatened by an outsider. S. Epatha Merkerson stars as lonely wife Lola, a faded beauty queen who is trapped in a marriage to Doc, played by Kevin Anderson. When a pretty young woman becomes a boarder in their Midwest home, their marriage is threatened by unspoken passions.
“Come Back, Little Sheba” played 190 performances on Broadway in 1950. The two leading actors at the time, Shirley Booth and Sidney Blackmer won Tony Awards for playing Lola and Doc. For many this is a long-awaited return for a production that has received raving reviews in the past. It is a story that will make you sniffle, sob and perhaps even flinch with pangs of anger. It is masterfully told and beautifully acted out on stage. Be sure to get your Come Back, Little Sheba tickets from Stubhub.com.
