Purple is the Best Color on Broadway

It’s a big night for the production of “The Color Purple.”  Grammy Award winning vocalists Chaka Khan and Bebe Winans join the New York Company of this production tonight.  They are taking over the roles of Sofia and Harpo.  Tonight is also the first performance by newcomer Zonya Love who takes on the character of Celie.  Love is also making her Broadway debut in “The Color Purple,” assuming the role of Celie from American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino.

All three new additions to the show hail from prestigious backgrounds in either theatre or music.  Khan is an eight-time Grammy Award winner, Winans is a gospel and R&B singer who has earned four Grammy Awards and Love was teaching theatre and Head Start classes in New York before she was offered the role in “The Color Purple.”  The show is based on the famous Alice Walker novel as well as the Steven Spielberg film.  It has officially been playing on Broadway since December 1, 2005.  It is a tearjerker and has ignited the interests in theatre-going patrons from around the world.  If you want to see a story that will tug at your heart strings be sure to grab hold of The Color Purple tickets from Stubhub.com.
