It Smells Fishy to Me

The beloved tale of Ariel, Flounder and Sebastian finally springs to life tonight on Broadway, complete with an evil sea witch which makes the story all the more dramatic!  This underworld fantasy world filled with mermaids and other assorted sea creatures captured people’s hearts when it was released as a Disney film in 1989.  The original story of The Little Mermaid is by Hans Christian Anderson and was first written in 1836.  The book by Anderson has more of a depressing ending and so modifications were made when it was turned into the film to present a more “happily ever after” story.

Sierra Boggess is making her Broadway debut as the beautiful-voiced Ariel who longs to go where the people are, up on the surface.  According to press notes on Playbill.com The Little Mermaid is about “a young mermaid named Ariel who no longer wants to live under the sea.  Before she can rise to the surface she must defy her father, escape the clutches of an evil sea witch and convince a prince that she’s the girl with the perfect voice.  It is a tale for families and it will make your heart soar.  Be sure to get your pair of The Little Mermaid tickets from Stubhub.com.
