The ceremony was hosted by renowned critic Charles Spencer. The awards are specially chosen by members of the Critics’ Circle’s Drama Section. They are exclusive honors and most likely are welcomed by the producers and the cast members of both outstanding productions.
Hairspray is a musical that takes place in Baltimore, Maryland and focuses on plump teenager Tracy Turblad’s dream to dance on The Corny Collins Show. She instantly becomes a celebrity overnight after the episode is aired. The musical is viewed as a social commentary on the injustices of parts of American society in the 1960s. Macbeth is among the best known of William Shakespeare’s plays and it also happens to be his shortest and bloodiest tragedy. The plot draws loosely on the historical account of King Macbeth of Scotland. Be sure to get your pair of Hairspray tickets and Macbeth tickets as soon as possible.
