Pascal And Rapp Get Ready to Go on the Road!

If you are a huge fan of “Rent” you will want to catch two of the stars that started with the phenomenal musical as they embark on a 2009 national tour.  Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp are ready to reprise their original Broadway roles starting in January of next year as the production makes its way around the country.  Pascal and Rapp both originated the roles of Roger Davis and Mark Cohen at the New York Theater Workshop on Broadway and in London, and both re-created their roles for the 2005 movie version of the musical.  This year the well-loved musical will officially end its eleven year run at the Nederlander Theatre.  Producer Jeffrey Seller had this to say on Playbill.com, “Adam and Anthony didn’t just play Roger and Mark.  To millions of Rent fans the ARE Roger and Mark.  It’s a great time to offer fans all over America the unique chance to see them in their signature roles.”

Pascal has received Obie and Theatre World awards as well as a Tony nomination for Best Actor for his performance as Roger in the original cast of “Rent.”  Rapp has appeared in many different plays and musicals throughout his career and is noted for his book called “Without You: a Memoir of Love, Loss and the Musical Rent.”  He also speaks regularly at colleges and universities.  Tours of rent that have continued since 1996 have made millions at the box office, with fans eagerly lining up to see this modern classic tale of bohemian life and death while struggling with AIDS in a New York neighborhood.  If you want to catch a glimpse of this incredible story, be sure to get your pair of Rent tickets from Stubhub.com.

Come Spring There Will Be Some Changes

Well, I guess March 4 isn’t technically considered spring, but then again, the musical “Spring Awakening” doesn’t only play through the warm months when flowers are in bloom and the sun re-warms the planet after a bitterly cold winter.  However March 4 is the start of something: Kristine Nielsen will join the production in place of Kate Burton in the wildly popular Tony Award winning musical.  She will succeed Ms. Burton in the Adult Women roles-and she is known for her recent performances in Charles Busch’s “Die Mommy Die!”  Nielsen has also appeared in “Our Leading Lady,” “Betty’s Summer Vacation,” “Crazy Mary,” “Based on a Totally True Story,” Miss Witherspoon,” “Jackie,” “The Green Bird” and “A Streetcar Named Desire.”  With all of her past accomplishments, there is no doubt that Kristine Nielsen will make an excellent addition to the already popular cast of “Spring Awakening.”

“Spring Awakening” is based on the 1891 play by Frank Wedekind and it is recognized for winning eight 2007 Tony Awards, including one for “Best Musical.”   Some of the most popular songs that are featured in the production include: “All That’s Known,” “And Then There Were None,” “Blue Wind/Don’t Do Sadness” and “Left Behind,” among a plethora of others.  The cast album for the show also recently earned a Grammy Award for “Best Musical Show Album.”  There is no doubt that Nielsen will make a welcome addition and theater patrons are already excited about her upcoming entrance to the show.  If you want to see Nielsen and the entire cast perform on Broadway, be sure to get your pair of Spring Awakening tickets today!

Jersey Boys are Getting Comfortable in the Windy City

It appears that the Tony-Award winning musical will officially extend its run in Chicago after an initial limited run.  Jersey Boys has been extremely popular among the public with good reason.  The company features some very talented stage actors including: Drew Gehling, Michael Ingersoll and Jeremy Kushnier.  Producer Michael David commented his sentiments on the extension to Playbill.com by saying, “Oh behalf of Jersey Boys, its entire cast and crew-once potential carpet-baggers turned happy, new residents-I want to express our profound appreciation for the overwhelming welcome we have received here, and for the consequent happiness at being able to now truly plant ourselves in Chicago at the LaSalle Bank Theatre for a long time to come.”

The cold weather doesn’t seem to both the cast and crew, who are all too thrilled to make Chicago a more permanent home from now on.  The musical, according to press notes posted on Playbill.com is, “the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons: Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi, a group of blue collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks who became one of the biggest American pop music sensations of tall time.  They wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds and sold 175 million records worldwide-all before they were 30.”  If you are interested in their catchy music and would like to learn more about this incredible group of musicians, be sure to purchase your pair of Jersey Boys tickets soon!

London’s “Fiddler on the Roof” has closed.  The final cast bow took place on February 16, to an appreciative and standing audience.  The production was a popular hit at its West End location, having recently garnered Olivier nominations for Best Musical Revival and Best Actor in a Musical.  The producers originally had planned on keeping the musical on the stage until April 26, but when lead star Henry Goodman’s contract finished on February, they had decided not to replace him.  Goodman was the actor who received the nominating nod for Best Actor in a Musical.  “Fiddler on the Roof” has been a much loved story over the years and the London production further proved its popularity among people of all generations.
