Making Music With the Music Man

Shirley Jones, a stage and screen star who starred as Marian the Librarian in the film version of the hit musical, “The Music Man” is scheduled to star in a week’s worth of concerts of the show in April.  Jones is going to take on a different role this time around acting as Marian’s mother in the concerts that will take place at Hartford’s Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts.  This will be a great opportunity for fans of Jones to see her on the stage once again and it will most likely show that she hasn’t lost a bit of that musical touch.

According to press notes posted on Playbill.com, The Music Man “follows fast talking traveling salesman Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys band he vows to organize-despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef.  His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the Librarian…who transforms him into a respectable citizen.”  The Music Man first opened on Broadway in 1957 and was a sensation among theatre patrons.  The production received Tony Awards for Best Actors and also Best Musical.  The Music Man is a great show to take the whole family to.  Be sure to get your pair of Music Man tickets as soon as possible!
