Well, I guess March 4 isn’t technically considered spring, but then again, the musical “Spring Awakening” doesn’t only play through the warm months when flowers are in bloom and the sun re-warms the planet after a bitterly cold winter. However March 4 is the start of something: Kristine Nielsen will join the production in place of Kate Burton in the wildly popular Tony Award winning musical. She will succeed Ms. Burton in the Adult Women roles-and she is known for her recent performances in Charles Busch’s “Die Mommy Die!” Nielsen has also appeared in “Our Leading Lady,” “Betty’s Summer Vacation,” “Crazy Mary,” “Based on a Totally True Story,” Miss Witherspoon,” “Jackie,” “The Green Bird” and “A Streetcar Named Desire.” With all of her past accomplishments, there is no doubt that Kristine Nielsen will make an excellent addition to the already popular cast of “Spring Awakening.”
“Spring Awakening” is based on the 1891 play by Frank Wedekind and it is recognized for winning eight 2007 Tony Awards, including one for “Best Musical.” Some of the most popular songs that are featured in the production include: “All That’s Known,” “And Then There Were None,” “Blue Wind/Don’t Do Sadness” and “Left Behind,” among a plethora of others. The cast album for the show also recently earned a Grammy Award for “Best Musical Show Album.” There is no doubt that Nielsen will make a welcome addition and theater patrons are already excited about her upcoming entrance to the show.
