Davie Joins Curtains!

The cast of Curtains welcomes a new member to their colorful crowd of actors!  Erin Davie dances onto the stage of the popular musical, “Curtains” tonight and she slips into the shoes of character Niki Harris.  Davie is well known for her work on Broadway’s “Grey Gardens” and Off-Broadway’s “The Glorious Ones.”  Davie is replacing actress Jill Paice, who originally created the role of Niki Harris, but who has moved on to portray Scarlett O’Hara in London’s world premiere of “Gone With the Wind.”  There is much anticipation among theater-goers to see how Davie will play out the role of the smitten Harris-though with all of her talents, it is assumed that she will perform exceptionally.

According to press notes posted on Playbill.com, “The show, Curtains, unfolds backstage at Boston’s Colonial Theatre in 1959, where a new musical could be a Broadway smash, were it not for its talent-free leading lady.  When the star dies on opening night, Lt. Frank Cioffi arrives to conduct an investigation.  But the lure of the theatre proves irresistible and after an unexpected romance blooms for the stage-struck detective, he finds himself just as drawn toward making the show a hit, as he is in solving the murder.”  This show is one that should keep you on the edge of your seat and you will love all of the ingenious twists and turns.  If you want to catch Erin Davie on the stage, be sure to get your pair of Curtains tickets.

In the Heights Reaches New Heights!

Mel Brooks to Sign CD

February 27 is slated to be a good day for “Young Frankenstein” fans.  On that particular day, after the matinee performance, the show’s co-creator, Mel Brooks will be available to sign copies of the musical’s new cast recording.  It will be held in the lobby of the HIlton Theatre and will only be open to ticket holders for that afternoon’s performance.  So you better get your tickets for that day soon-so that you can tout an autographed CD of your favorite Broadway musical.  Some of the CD’s musical numbers include: “Overture,” “The Happiest Town in Town,” “The Brain” and “Please Don’t Touch Me,” among many more.

Legally Blonde Doll Collection

Were you an avid fan of the movie?  Do you particularly enjoy the play that is taking place on Broadway?  Then what about starting your own doll collection based on the smash hit show, “Legally Blonde?”  The Madame Alexander doll company continues its Broadway inspired collections with two new dolls based on the Broadway musical “Legally Blonde.”  Both the dolls are designed with the lead character of the story, Elle Woods, in mind.  One of dolls is adorned in the outfit that the character is wearing when she arrives at the Harvard campus with Bruiser in tow.  The other is a depiction of the character during the finale of the production.  Both dolls are expected to sell well, considering that “Legally Blonde” is one of Broadway’s most popular shows.

Hairspray Recieves Nominations

Hairspray is sure sticking in the minds of fans especially since it just recently swept this year’s Olivier Award nominations including one for Best Musical.  The show also boasts Best Actress and Actor in a Musical nominations for actors Leanne Jones and Michael Ball.  Hairspray has been well received by fans all over the world and London is no exception.  There are always plenty of fans lining up at the door to purchase tickets and they always seem to walk away impressed with the musical that is expertly acted out on stage.  It’s no wonder that it is in line for top honors at this year’s Olivier Awards!

Bring On Spring (Awakening)!

Much to the excitement of fans, The Hal Leonard Corporation has just released the long-awaited vocal selections for the hit Broadway musical Spring Awakening.  The production is a big favorite among fans and the release of these songs is much heralded by theatre patrons around the world.  Some of the selections that appear on the album include: “All That’s Known,” “And Then There Were None,” “Left Behind” and “Mamma Who Bore Me.”  Spring Awakening is known for winning eight 2007 Tony Awards, including the awards for Best Score and for Best Musical.  Today it is considered one of the most popular productions on Broadway.

Fans Can Meet Fierstein

Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein is making himself available to fans tomorrow afternoon when he will be at an event at Sky360 by Delta.  The event is set up in recognition of the launch of a Catered Affair Wedding Album website that will include an interactive collection of wedding stories, photos and videos.  Also on the schedule for the event is the debut of Cupcake Cafe’s “A Catered Affair Wedding Cupcake.”  Five pairs of tickets will also be raffled off to lucky theatre patrons who will have a chance to see the much heralded musical live on the stage.

The Curtain Closes on Jill Paice

One of Broadway’s beaming young stars danced out of the arms of David Hyde Pierce in the production of “Curtains” for the final time last night.  Jill Paice performed her final role as Niki Harris.  She leaves “Curtains” in anticipation of playing Scarlett O’Hara in the world premiere of the musical “Gone With the Wind,” in London.  The previews for “Gone With the Wind” will start on April 5 at the New London Theatre in the West End and Paice’s interpretation of Scarlett is much anticipated among fans.  She will be missed greatly in “Curtains” but fans know that she will be moving on to bigger and better roles.

According to press notes posted on Playbill.com, “In ‘Curtains’ Paice created the role of Niki Harris who is clearly smitten with-and under investigation by-Hyde Pierce’s detective character.  The music comedy whodunnit at the Al Hirshfeld Theatre concerns the murder of a trouper in a Broadway-bound musical.”  Piace is also known for playing Laura Fairlie in “The Woman In White,” for appearing in the Las Vegas production of “Mamma Mia,” and the national tour of “Les Miserables.”  Theatre patrons will have to keep a sharp eye out for the talented Jill Paice, in the meantime don’t forget to buy your pair of Curtains tickets from Stubhub.com.
