Sherie Rene Scott is currently playing the evil sea witch Ursula in the new Disney musical, “The Little Mermaid.” She will soon offer a one night only performance of a collection of musical short stories entitled, “You May Now Worship Me.” The evening was conceived and written by Scott and Tony nominee Dick Scanlan. According to press notes posted on Playbill.com, “You May Now Worship Me is billed as ‘Scott’s collection of deeply personal stories. From her childhood in Topeka to her eventual rise to Broadway semi-star, this is her truth, her whole truth, and nothing but her truth…only better. Featuring songs made famous by such icons as Judy Garland, Rickie Lee Jones, Tom Waits and Mr. Rogers, You May Worship Me Now reminds us that none of us are in Kansas anymore.’”
Scott was also recently quoted on Playbill.com as saying, “I should say that the songs are kind of secondary to the writing of the piece. Every song that’s chosen really has to do with [the storytelling]. I have to say it’s not like, ‘I like this song, therefore I want to sing it.’ It’s really about the songs that help move the story along and help tell the story.’” Make sure that you don’t miss out on this incredible performance by Scott and while you are at it, make sure to check her out in one of Broadway’s most popular plays!
