The wildly acclaimed new musical “Passing Strange” is set to release a new cast album that will be recorded at the Belasco Theatre. The musical is known on Broadway for blending the excitement and the immediacy of a rock concert with Broadway theatricality. In a statement posted on Playbill.com, Stew, who wrote the book and lyrics to the show said, “A live recording session of Passing Strange will be a wildly unique event. More than just a live show document or a studio recording, we are aiming for a freaky hybrid of the two.” The cast is geared up to perform songs from the musical and fans of the show will have the opportunity to attend the live recording session and proceeds will benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
According to press notes posted on Playbill.com Passing Strange is “a semi-autobiographical musical that incorporates elements of Stew’s life to tell the story of a young black bohemian who leaves behind his middle-class, church-ruled upbringing in Los Angeles to travel abroad in search of his artistic and personal identity.” Be sure to check out this fantastic musical that has taken Broadway by storm.
