Leo Ash Evens, who is known for playing the character of Tulsa in the production of “Gypsy,” has landed the role of Riff in the upcoming production of West Side Story. He will play in the classic musical from the dates July 22 to August 31. Evens was quoted on Playbill.com as saying, “This is my fourth time in the role, and I’m equally as excited as the first! From Houston TUTs to Barrington Stage to the 50th anniversary tour last summer, playing Riff has been an incredible opportunity for me to grow as an actor. I’m really excited to work with Joey as well.” Evens has also appeared in the productions of Oklahoma!, 42nd Street, West Side Story and Chicago, among many others.
West Side Story features a score by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The musical first opened on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre on September 26, 1957 and it played 732 performances before closing on June 27, 1959.
