A Catered Affair is already racking up the nominations for the 53rd Annual Drama Desk Awards. The Awards ceremony takes place on April 28 at the New York Friars Club and anybody who is interested in theater will most likely be tuned in to get the immediate results. The new musical has earned 12 nominations, the most of any other show of the 2007-2008 season. Other shows that were showered with multiple nominations included: “Adding Machine,” Young Frankenstein” and “South Pacific.” A Catered Affair started its run at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego and has been a huge success among fans of the theater.
According to Playbill.com, “Drama Desk is an organization of theater critics, writers and editors that honors excellence in all areas of New York theater: Broadway, Off-Broadway, Off-Off Broadway and not-for-profit.” It is a great opportunity for all of the plays and musicals that are featured in New York and around the country to be recognized for the great efforts put forth by the performers and the directors.
