The Broadway hit musical is welcoming a new cast member to the stage today and her name is Eden Espinosa. Espinosa is known for having made her Broadway debut covering the roles of Elphaba and Nessarose in Wicked and she eventually took over the role of Elphaba on Broadway…jump starting her career in the theater world of New York City. Rent is the seventh longest running show in Broadway history and it will end its 12 year Broadway run on September 7 of this year.

Rent first opened on Broadway on April 29, 1996, after it wrapped up a sold out, extended engagement at Off Broadway’s New York Theatre Workshop. The popular musical won every major best musical award, including: the Tony Award, New York Drama Critics Circle Award, Drama Desk Award and the Outer Critics Circle Award. The Arrival of A Catered Affair CD!

Revival of West Side Story To Begin Previews

The revival of the popular Broadway hit “West Side Story” is set to begin previews at a theater on Broadway on February 13, 2009.  The production will include will include the original choreography that is re-created by Joey McKneely.  No casting has been announced for the production, but fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement of who exactly the performers will be.  It was said on Playbill.com that the production will “be radically different from any production ever done and contemporary to boot.”

Shuler Hensley From Young Frankenstein Heads to Chatterbox

The Tony Award winner Shuler Hensley from the hit production of Young Frankenstein, will sit down for a nice Broadway chat at the May 22 edition of Seth’s Broadway Chatterbox.  The live talk show helps donate to the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, which is the nation’s leading industry-based, not-for-profit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organization.  Hensley is of course currently starring in Broadway’s “Young Frankenstein” as Jud Fry.  He is recognized for his work on the show with his Tony Award that he earned for this particular role.

Before he joined the cast of Young Frankenstein, Hensley starred in the Broadway revival of Oklahoma!, Tarzan, Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and The Most Happy Fella.  He has also starred in many different films like “Van Helsing,” “Deadline,” Monday Night Mayhem,” “Sabrina” and “Someone Like You.”  His talent and his experience is renowned throughout the theater world so make sure to get your own pair of Young Frankenstein tickets.

Bartlett Sher Directs South Pacific

Spring Awakening Making U.K. Premiere!

Taylor Hicks Joins Grease!

The former American Idol contestant and eventual winner is making a significant leap to the stage on Broadway in the production of Grease.  This will be Taylor Hicks Broadway debut on Broadway and an excellent way to get his name out there in terms of his acting and his singing abilities.  Hicks was featured in Season Five and walked confidently away the winner of the contest.  He was quoted on Playbill.com as saying, “I am incredibly excited to be a part of one of my favorite musicals.  The Soul Patrol’s gonna invade Broadway!”  And we are all on the edge of our seats in anticipation of this much heralded event!
