The popular actress, Renee Elise Goldberry, who helped to create the role of Nettie in “The Color Purple” is scheduled to join the cast of the Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning musical Rent. She will start her role with the company on June 16 and she will be the final actress to play Mimi. Rent ends it’s award-winning run at the Nederlander Theater on September 7. The New York Rent company currently features other actors like Will Chase, Adam Kantor and Michael McElroy among many other talented performers.
Rent is now the seventh longest running show in Broadway history, it opened its curtains on April 29, 1996. This opening followed a sold out, extended limited engagement at Off-Broadway’s New York Theater Workshop. The musical itself went on to win every major best musical award and it has maintained a popular following over the years.
