Broadway’s Phantom Hits 8.500 Shows!

A milestone has certainly been reached today with the production of The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway.  The popular production plays its 8,500 performance at the Majestic Theatre, an impressive number for any play.  Andrew Lloyd Webber’s famous production is already the longest running show in the Broadway history.  Today, it has many followers and fans around the world.  Since its debut on January 26, 1988 The Phantom of the Opera has grossed $690 million, making it the highest-grossing show in Broadway history.

According to press notes posted on Playbill.com, The Phantom of the Opera is based on the classic novel, “Le Fantome de L’Opera by Gaston Leroux, and tells the story of a masked figure who lurks beneath the catacombs of the Paris Opera House and rules the inhabitants above.  He falls in love with an innocent young soprano, Christine and devotes himself to creating a new star by nurturing her extraordinary talents.”  Get your pair of The Phantom of the Opera tickets.
