The Film Mamma Mia is Second Highest Grossing Film of Weekend

The musical film, Mamma Mia! just recently became the second highest grossing film of the weekend, coming in second to The Dark Knight, which features the late Heath Ledger.  The Dark Knight is the highest grossing opening of any film to date.  Mamma Mia! though also made an impressive showing pulling in $27,605,000 for its first weekend in U.S. theaters.  The film made its world premiere in London and did exceptionally well, prompting a great showing in the United States.

The film, according to press notes posted on Playbill.com is described as such: “An independent, single mother who owns a small hotel on an idyllic Greek island, Donna is about to let go of Sophie, the spirited daughter she’s raised alone.  For Sophie’s wedding Donna has invited her two lifelong best girlfriends-practical and no-nonsense Rosie and wealthy, multi-divorcee Tanya.  Sophie, though is on the quest to find the identity of her father so that he may walk her down the aisle.  She brings back three men from Donna’s past and over 24 magical hours, new love will bloom and old romances will be rekindled on this lush island full of possibilities.  Get your Mamma Mia! tickets from Stubhub.com.
