Spring Awakening to Begin Pre-Tour Engagement

Get geared up to see the North American tour of the popular Tony Award-winning musical, Spring Awakening.  The musical will begin the engagement at San Diego’s Balboa Theater on August 15 and the performances will continue through August 31 at this California venue.  The national tour will then officially kick off on September 4 at San Francisco’s Curran Theater.  The performers starring in the show include: Kyle Riabko and Blake Bashoff who are taking on the lead roles.

New Christine Joins The Phantom of the Opera

Marni Raab is gearing up to step into the shoes of Christine in the Phantom of the Opera.  Previously Raab played in the role on the world and U.S. national tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s famous production.  Raab will join the Broadway cast starting at the evening performance on August 20.  The Phantom of the Opera is playing at the Majestic Theater and is Broadway’s longest running show.  It is currently in its 21st year in New York.

Raab becomes the 13th actress to be cast as Christine in the Broadway production and follows such actresses as: Sarah Brightman, Karen Culliver, Sandra Joseph and Jennifer Hop Wills.  The Phantom of the Opera is based on the novel by Gaston Leroux and it boasts music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.  The show has remained one of the most popular shows around the U.S. and the world.  Be sure not to miss Raab make her debut and buy your own pair of The Phantom of the Opera tickets.

Matt Cavenaugh Offered Role in West Side Story

Matt Cavenaugh, who was most recently seen in the Harvey Fierstein-John Bucchino musical called A Catered Affair, has now been offered the role of Tony in the upcoming revival of West Side Story.  Cabenaugh initially made his Broadway debut in 2003 with his role in Urban Cowboy.  The Broadway play of West Side Story will begin previews on February 23, 2009 and will officially open on Broadway on March 19, 2009.  The famed production has long been a fan favorite, both on the stage and on the screen.

Mary-Louise Parker to Join Hedda Gabler Cast!

The actress, Mary-Louise Parker is set to star in a Broadway revival of Hedda Gabler.  Parker is a Tony-Award winner and will join the cast in January 2009 at the American Airlines Theater.  Other cast members have not been announced, but will be made known as the opening date of the production draws near.  Previews are so far scheduled to begin on January 6, 2009, with an official opening January 25, 2009.  Parker was last seen on the Broadway stage in the revival of Reckless.

Spring Awakening Tour Adds Cast Members

Wake up and get yourself to a production of Spring Awakening!  The complete casting for the national tour of the Tony winning musical has been announced with a pre-tour engagement in San Diego on August 15.  Kyle Riabko and Blake Bashoff will head the in the roles of Melchior and Moritz.  The duo will also be joined by Christy Altamare and Steffi D.  The musical has been a big hit around the world and likely this national tour will draw in more crowds.

Move Aside Hollywood, Les Miz Is Here!

It’s going to be a starry night at the Hollywood Bowl.  Les Miserables is in town for the weekend and it’s premiere in the City of Stars begins tonight and lasts through the weekend.  The production is complete with a star-studded cast and will likely draw in thousands of spectators eager to catch a glimpse of one of the most famous plays of all time.

Legally Blonde National Tour Gets New Cast Members!

Casting has been made complete for the national tour of Legally Blonde: The Musical.  The show will officially launch its journey in Providence, Rhode Island on September 21.  Becky Gulsvig will take on the role of Elle Woods and she will be supported by a large, talented cast.  Recently D.B. Bonds, Natalie Joy Johnson, Jeff McLean and Megan Lewis were announced as new traveling cast members.  Tony-Award winning choreographer Jerry Mitchell, made his directorial debut with the musical and he will direct and choreograph the upcoming tour.

White Christmas Slated For Broadway Debut

Snowflakes will start falling in November on Broadway this year with the opening of the musical Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.  The show is scheduled to begin a limited engagement at the Marquis Theatre on November 14 and will continue to January 4, 2009.  The musical has been playing in cities around the country and the producers are looking forward to a much anticipated run on Broadway.  The musical is produced by Kevin McCollum, John Gore, Tom McGrath, Paul Balek, the Producing Office, Dan Markley, Sonny Everett and Broadway Across America in association with Paramount Pictures.

Young Frankenstein Adds a New Cast Member!

The talented Michele Ragusa from Kiss Me, Kate and Adrift in Mexico is now the new Elizabeth in Broadway’s production of Young Frakenstein.  Ragusa succeeds Megan Mullally in the role of Frankenstein’s fashionable, but somewhat cold girlfriend, Elizabeth.  Mullally left the show on August 3 and Ragusa will step into Elizabeth’s shoes for tonight’s performance.  Young Frankenstein is a fan favorite on Broadway and draws in many spectators throughout the year.

C’mon Marianne at Center of Jersey Boys Lawsuit

The production of the Jersey Boys has played to sold out crowds, winning the praise of both fans and critics and it has even garnered a Tony win.  Nevertheless the fame and fortune cannot keep the musical safe from potential troubles.  This time the problem involves a little song called “C’mon Marianne.”  According to an article posted on Playbill.com, the song was “penned by L. Russell Brown and the late Raymond Bloodworth.  Brown and Bloodworth’s daughter, Marie Shelton have filed a suit against EMI.”  The plaintiffs are hoping for a settlement of $100,000 because they claim that EMI has failed to pay them royalties for the song.

Jersey Boys premiered at the La Jolla Playhouse in 2004 and arrived on Broadway the follow year.  According to press notes on Playbill, Jersey Boys is “the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, a group of blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks who became one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time.  They wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds and sold 175 million records worldwide-all before they were 30.”  Keep up with  all of the latest news surrounding the musical and don’t forget to get your Jersey Boys tickets!
