Wicked Celebrated

The cast of Wicked has proven themselves to be not so “wicked” after all, but they are “wicked” nice. Before the cast participated in two performances of the musical at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta they spruced up the Renaissance Park in central Atlanta. Wearing “Wicked” hoodies the cast distributed some much-needed mulch around the park with their wheelbarrows and pitchforks. The park has been badly in need of some TLC, and recent projects have generated a more than satsifactory response.

The musical grosses $1.4 million dollars every weekend, with a seemingly bottomless interest in the show it appears as though there is no stopping this musical that has taken the world by storm. The story of Elphaba and Glinda, the two witches of Oz, and their years growing up together, has become a huge sensation that is spreading all over the world. This is definitely a show worth seeing, so be sure to ge your “Wicked” tickets while they are still available.

Taylor Hicks: Teen Idol becomes Teen Angel

The National Tour of Grease is getting ready to launch in Providence, Rhode Island on December 2 and the cast was just announced today. The National Tour will be appearing in cities across America until June 9th of 2009. Per a previous announcement, Taylor Hicks will be starring as Teen Angel, a role that he already appeared in on Broadway over the summer.

The roles of Danny and Sandy will be filled by Eric Schneider and Emily Padgett. The role of “Rizzo” will be played by Allie Schulz, who was a contestant on NBC’s “Grease: Your the One That I Want.” Other key roles will be filled as follows: Eugene will be played by Scot Patrick, William Blum will appear as Roger, Jan will be played by Bridie Carol, Kate Morgan Chadwick will be filling the role of Frenchy and other stellar artists will be performing in the key roles. The ensemble has also been expertly arranged.

Grease is the story of Sandy and Danny, who spent an incredible summer together, only to find that summer life and school life can be very different. Danny is the head of the T-Birds a gang of guys who are the “tough dudes” of their high school. And the T-Birds only go with Pink Ladies, their counterparts and the cool/tough girls at the school. Sandy is an pretty, innocent, naive girl who wears modest clothes and seems to be a better match for a jock or someone a little less “tough” than Danny. How does everything work out? Be sure to get your tickets to see the National Tour of Grease when it comes to your town. Grease National Tour Tickets are available at StubHub.com.

Chicago is coming to the Windy City

Opening Tonight: Speed-the-Plow Revival

Tonight the 20th Anniversary revival of David Mamet’s Tony-nominated play Speed-the-Plow is celebrating its official opening on Broadway. Speed-the-Plow is a cutting portrayal of the down-and-dirty aspects of the film industry. First produced on Broadway in 1988, Speed-the-Plow is the story of two film industry giants: Charlie Fox is the intrepid producer and Bobby Gould is the newest film production exec. The two friends have big plans to create the next big blockbuster, but their plans are undermined when the seemingly innocent temporary secretary Karen arrives on the scene.

The actors are Jeremy Piven of “Entourage” playing Bobby Gould to Raul Esparza’s Charlie Fox. The two men are going head-to-head with “Mad Men’s” Elizabeth Moss throwing a wrench in the works as Gould’s secretary Karen. The play shows up Hollywood at its darkest, exhibiting a world where men and women alike sell their bodies and souls for the next big step up the ladder. Tonight is the opening and shows are limited, so be sure to get your Speed-the-Plow tickets while they are still available.
