Chicago is coming to the Windy City

The city of Chicago will be hosting its namesake musical starting in February 2009. Chicago will be playing at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts Oriental Theater, located on West Randal Road. The musical was made into a movie in 2002, winning six Oscar Awards including Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design. The stage musical has also done very well, winning six Tony Awards including Best Musical.

When the show opens for its short-term showing in Chicago, it will be starring former Seinfeld star and recent Dancing with the Stars sensation, John O’Hurley. The musical is about nightclub dancer and housewife, Roxie Hart, in the 1920s. When things start to go sour, she murders her on-the-side lover. At first her loving husband decides to take the rap for her, because she tells him that the man was an intruder, but later he realizes that he’s been duped and steps aside to let her take the rap.

This is a story of murder, coruption and treachery laced with adultery and greed. The musical is definitely worth seeing if you’re into the 1920s and you enjoy an award-winning show. As the musical will only be appearing for a limited time, be sure to get your tickets as soon as they come available. Right now you can see Chicago in a number of other cities around the US, including  Boston, Charlotte and New York.
