Westside Story Revival, Cast Chosen

A revival of the incredible Broadway musical West Side Story will be starting at the Palace Theater in New York at the end of February 2009. The musical, which has become an American icon, celebrated it’s 50th anniversary in September 2007. The musical is about two opposing gangs on the streets of New York who are vying for possession of the streets. One group is made up of all white American and the other group is Puerto-Rican immigrants.

The cast for the revival has been chosen. With Matt Cavenaugh as Tony, Karen Olivo as Anita, Cody Green as Riff, and George Akram as Bernardo. The part of Maria will be played by 21 year old actress, Josefina Scagolione, from Argentina. Arthur Laurents will be directing the show. James Young will be desiging the scenes, David C. Woolard will be designing the costumes, lighting is by Howell Binkley, Mark Adam Rampmeyer will be designing the hairstyles. The choreography wil be reproduced by Joey McKneely, who is the recipient of a Tony Award.
