Wicked Turns Five Today!

“Wicked” is celebrating its fifth year on Broadway today. The story that started out as an ironic take on a favorite American classic has become an international sensation and appears to be growing in fame on a daily basis. During the earlier part of the month, “Wicked” has hosted a series of special events in order to celebrate the occasion.

Events included The Yellow Brick Road Not Taken, a benefit that featured songs and scenes from early drafts of the musical. Also in New York the Empire State Building, the most recognizable landmark in the city, turned green in honor of the occasion. Several events, nationwide, included author Gregory Maguire (who has now seen the musical over 30 times), book writer Winnie Holzman and producers Mark PLatt and David Stone. Cities celebrating the event include Chicago, Los Angeles and Atlanta; as well as London, Stuttgart, Tokyo and Melbourne.

Wicked has won numerous Grammy and Tony Awards, and is going so strong it has surpassed many films in its ticket sales. The story is about Elphaba, the fiery and ambitious young woman who becomes victim of her own high moral principles; and Glinda, the beautiful and amibtious girl who becomes a powerful figure in her country. This is a great musical that everyone must watch. So be sure to go to StubHub and get your “Wicked” tickets today!
