Rock of Ages

One of the newest hits Off-Broadway, Rock of Ages, is headed to the big screen. Rock of Ages is set in the late ’80s with a Hollywood rock club that is facing its final days, as developers plan to tear it down. A small-town girl and a young rocker may be just what is needed to keep this club on the scene in city of entertainment. Hair metal, hoop earrings, mullets and all the most exciting, and some of the more embarrassing, parts of the ’80s.

This show could be either really bad or really incredible, and fortunately for them it is much better than it sounds in print. With American Idol contestant Constantine Maroulis playing the leading male role, the show is actually pretty fantastic and it is not hard to understand why it has been picked to join the ranks of the new wave of movie musicals that have been hitting the big screen. Slava’s Snowshow Opens Tonight

Slava’s Snowshow won an Olivier Award on London’s West End, and is now playing on Broadway. The show is a creation of Slava Polunin, who is widely regarded as the greatest clown in the world. The show contains a series of incredible images created to bring the holiday season to the audience. Considered one of the msot heart-warming and wonderful shows of the holiday season, this incredible Broadway experience is one that you will not want to miss.

Trained in Pantomime, Slava Polunin created his famous clown Asisyai early on in his career. The personality and presentation of the clown was created in the traditional sadness and poetic nature of Leonid Engibarov. Polunin first presented Asisyai to the world in the early ’80s. His creation became the genesis for the theatre clown. Since then Polunin has been crowned an artist laureate of Estrada, the Russian showbiz stage. Will Ferrell is Bush on Broadway

Will Ferrell created one of the most entertaining impersonations of George Bush ever to come to your TV on Saturday Night Live. The actor is now bringing his impersonation of the President to the Broadway stage. The show is titled You’re Welcome America. A Final Night with George W. Bush on Broadway. The show marks Ferrell’s Broadway debut. The one man show will be playing previews starting in January with an official opening in February. Boeing Boeing - Final Performance Announced

Boeing Boeing, which won the 2008 award for Best Play Revival, is going to be playing its final performance on January 4, 2009. This entertaining play has become very popular on Broadway. The story is about an American architect living in Paris, who has somehow managed to get himself engaged to three different women. How has he accomplished this? Well all three of his fiances are air hostesses. Watch as this hilarious comedy comedy unfolds, stunning American audiences with laughter.

 Beoing Boeing stars Christine Baranski as Bertha, the housekeeper for the architect and the unwilling accomplice to his romantic schemes.  Greg German plays Bernard the architect who has been letting his romantic notions run away with him a bit. Liza’s At the Palace

Liza Minelli is once again causing a huge sensation on the Great White Way, the new show has been such a big hit that it has already scheduled an extra two weeks of performances. Despite a rocky career and an ongoing struggle with alcoholism, this star has continued to wow audiences with her live performances. Since her first appearance on stage with her mother, Judy Garland, when she was just a baby, Liza has been performing ever since.

The show has been choreographed by Ron Lewis, who last choreographed the star in “The Act,” her performance on Broadway that won her a Tony Award. Scenery is by Ray Klausen, costumes are by Halston, Matthew Berman designed the lighting and Matt Kraus is in charge of sound. Filming of Gypsy’s Last Performance

Gypsy, a musical that is roughly based on the life of Gypsy Rose Lee, a famous stripper and dancer from the 20th Century, is currently one of the most critically acclaimed musicals on Broadway. With Patti LuPone in the leading role of Rose, the mother who is so bent on her daughters becoming stars she puts her ambitions before their welfare.

The musical has one three Tony Awards this year for its leading characters. LuPone received the Tony for Leading Actress in a Musical. Laura Benanti, playing the part of Gypsy Rose Lee, received the Tony for Best Supporting Actress and Boyd Gains was awarded Best Supporting Actor. The show also received seven other Tony Award Nominations. It was nominated for six Outer Circle Awards, winning half of them.

Notices have been posted that the final performances of Gypsy may be filmed for future purposes. There may be cameras placed throughout the theater, both stationary and moving, to capture the historic final production of the musical on film. The final performance is taking plae on March 1, 2009.
