In The Heights Coming to San Diego 2010

In The Heights a musical that started making waves on Broadway in 2008, will be coming to San Diego’s Civic Theater in 2010. The musical was nominated for 13 Tony Awards in 2008, and went on to win four of them. The awards included Best Musical, Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) to Lin-Manuel Miranda, Best Choreography to Andy Blankenbuster, and Best Orchestrations to Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman.It also garnered a 2008 Grammy Award nomination for Best Cast Album. During the week of December 28, 2008, the musical broke the house record at the Richard Rodgers Theater, earning $1,121,695. It then topped it’s own record by making $1,136,062 the week following.

The story is about a tight-knit community living in Manhattan, at the top of the island. The musical explore the changing lives of the community, and how they deal with the outside influences that are invading their little world.
