Estelle Parsons is going to be filling the role of Violet, the chain-smoking, pill-popping, emotionally manipulative family matriarch of August: Osage County. The Tony Award-winning play received the Pulitzer Prize in 2008. The play tells the story of the melt-down of an American family following the disappearance of the father. Three daughters, all grown women, and respective family members gather to support the acid-tongued Violet in the wake of her husband’s vanishing.
Since Estelle Parsons made her Broadway debut in Happy Hunting she has starred in or directed over 25 productions, she has also appeared in numerous movies and TV shows. She also won the Oscar award for Best Supporting Actress for her role int he 1964 movie Bonnie and Clyde. Estell is currently filling the Broadway role that she will be taking on the road in the summer of 2009.
