Pippin in LA

Pippin is a unique production now being performed at the Mark Taper Forum, January 15 through March 15, 2009. This ground-breaking production is a reinvention of Stephen Schwartz multiple Tony Award-winning musical. (In total the musical has won six Tony Awards and a total of 12 nominations.) This version incorporates deaf, hard-of-hearing and hearing actors to compile voice and American sign language with dance, music and story-telling.

The story told in the musical is the coming-of-age of King Charlemagne’s oldest son. The book is by Roger O. Hirson, music and lyrics composed and written by Stephen Schwartz, Jeff Calhoun directs and choreographs, Steven Landau is head of music direction and arrangements. The set and costume design is by Tobin Ost, lighting design is by Donald Holder, sound design is by Philip G. Allen, illusions are by Jim Steinmeyer, and the musical is co-produced with Deaf West Theatre. Pippin tickets are a unique buy, as they celebrate one of the phenomenons of today’s entertainment world, the incorporation of sign language with modern musical theatre.
