The Addam’s Family Begins Next Year

The Addam’s Family has its world premier in Chicago in November. The musical, which is highly anticipated, is based on the highly eccentric family that was created by Charles Addams and was first published in The New Yorker in 1933. Who could have known that the cartoonist was then publishing what would be one of the most popular cartoons of his day? It eventually spawned a TV show in the 1960s and an two animated TV series, one that aired in the ’70s and one in the ’90s. It also was the source for a series of movies in the ’90s. Well the story is now on its way to New York, with previews beginning in Broadway next year, on March 5, 2010.

The Addam’s Family, New Musical is highly anticipated. And even though no actors have been officially cast it has been confirmed that Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth have been participating in closed readings. Also participating in the workshop have been Terrence Mann, Marylouise Burke, Jan Maxwell, Zachary James and Kevin Chamberlin. The musical will feature a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice (who also were the librettists for Jersey Boys,) music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, direction and design by Phelim McDremott and Julian Crouch, Choreography by Sergio Trujillo, lighting by Natasha Katz and music direction by Mary-Mitchell Campbell. The Addams Family tickets are available for Chicago, but keep an eye for ticket sales for Broadway.

Will Ferrell’s You’re Welcome America

What can be said about Will Ferrell’s You’re Welcome America? That is, apart from the fact that it broke house records in the first half of the month and has already recouped its investments? Well…it seems to be doing well. This irreverent goofy political satire of our latest president, George Bush is going to be playing at the Cort Theater in New York until March 15th. When the show opened on Broadway at the beginning of the month it marked Will Ferrell’s Broadway debut, and what a debut it has been! The show features a dancing Condelezza Rice, a move-busting body-guard…of the strong and silent type, not to mention the satirically disrespectful look at the former President Bush.

Will Ferrell’s fan base has come to know and love him as the bumbling and misguided Buddy, the man who thinks he’s an elf;  Ron Burgundy, in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy; and other such unusual and fascinating roles. As the fascinating actor who has made a career out of playing the buffoon on the show, has garnered a wide following for himself in film, and it looks like he is now doing the same thing on stage. What will happen when Will Ferrell comes to Broadway once more? Will he come to Broadway again…and what will the script be next time? Evan Rachel Wood in Spider-Man

Evan Rachel Wood stepped onto the red carpet at the Oscars this past Sunday, sporting a stunning champagne colored Elie Saab gown, beautifully setting off her stunning red hair. But her beautiful gown was not the only thing that she revealed, she also made it known that her next major stage role would be in a new Julie Taymor musical on Broadway. The next big thing from Julie Taymor, that is currently the talk of the town? Spider-Man the musical, so as it seems unlikely that it will be Evan Rachel Wood playing the part of Peter Parker,  the educated speculation is that she willl be filling the part of Mary Jane.

In the long-running Marvel Comic saga about this spider-like superhero, Mary Jane plays an important part in the life of this superhero; first as an aquaintance and later as his wife. What part of the character will be revealed in the new musical that is going to be opening on Broadway in 2010? Well no one knows that now except for the writers and perhaps Wood herself, but it does promise to be an intriguing experience for those who enjoy Theater and are fans of the comic books. Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark Opening

The long-anticipated and long-awaited musical, Spider-Man, Turn off the Dark, is now scheduled to open at the Hilton Theatre on Broadway in February of 2010. Previews will begin on January 16 that same year. The musical has been the talk of Broadway for some time now and it is highly anticipated as an up-and-coming big thing on Broadway. It will be produced by Hello Entertainment/David Garfinkle, Martin McCallum, Marvel Entertainment/David Maisel, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Jeremiah Harris. Julie Taymor is best known as the director of Disney’s The Lion King, which is currently playing on Broadway for the 12th year in a row.

Spider-Man draws from a 40 year tradition of Marvel comics books, and brings a new take on this classic comic book hero. This mythical tale of Peter Parker is certain to be one of the most exciting twist to this old favorite, culminating in a surprising and inspiring new twist that tells the origins of Spider-Man and how he came to be. And one confrontation will leave audiences stunned by the new revelation that they will have into the ever-popular character of Peter Parker. J’e Caryous Johnson & Love Overboard

Love Overboard has recently hit the stage and is the 16th play by Je’ Caryous Johnson. Je’ Caryous Johnson is an acclaimed playwrite, and the first man to take an African American romance and turn it into a play. His first play was written in high school, and now, at the age of 31, he is an acclaimed playwright, CEO of I’m Ready Productions and a four-time national championship playwright.

Johnson first became known for taking famous novels and adapting them into play format, but later he moved further along in writing and began to create his own novels to go along with his plays. Earlier productions include Men, Money & Gold Diggers and Whatever She Wants. He currently fills the roles of playwright, director, and producer, not t0 mention being CEO as well.

In Love Overboard, Johnson tells a story that takes place aboard a cruise ship, The S.S. Love & Happiness. on board is The Captain, a man who seems to be more obsessed with women than he is with piloting his ship. A Married Couple are two of the passengers, who have come on the cruise to reawaken their once passionate relationship. Also on board is a Divorced Man, who has come to celebrate his new-found independence. An Overly Spiritual Woman als has a ticket, and is hoping to find Mr. Right, and with her is her Best Friend, who would rather date men with a ring on their finger.

After the list of passengers, little more needs to be said about this 16th play from this famous playwright. Be sure to get your Love Overboard tickets soon, the national tour is making its rounds of American cities, it will soon be leaving Pittsburgh for Baltimore.

Beauty and the Beast In Pensylvania

Beauty and the Beast is a wonderful Disney experience and nothing can top the live stage production of the musical. The first live show of the musical opened on stage at the Palace Theatre on April 18, 1994. The musical was a huge success, winning the 1994 Tony Awards for Anna Hould-Ward for Best Costume Design and the Theatre World Award to Burke Moses. The musical played on Broadway starting with Previews on March 9, 1994, its official opening was on April 18th that same year, it finally closed on July 29, 2007. By the time the musical closed performances had reached a total of 5,461, making it one of the longest playing shows in Broadway history. The Story of My Life Opening Night

The Story of My Life is the latest musical to be celebrating its opening night on Broadway this year. It is a deeply personal two-actor musical starring Will Chase and Malcome Gets, who the play the parts of two close friends who grew up together. The play is being directed by Tony Award Winner Richard Maltby Jr. of: Ain’t Misbehavin’, Fosse, and Ring of Fire. The two men play out a story that to one extent or another is very familiar to the contemporary human experience. Gets is the quirky bookshop owner named Alvin Kelby, who grew up but stayed where he was. Chase, on the other hand, plays the friend who went on to do great things, moving away and becoming a best-selling author.

This musical is a great one for our day, when people are beginning to long for a closer connection in a world that has become increasingly disconnected through the current technological developements. Will Ferrell’s Show Breaks House Record

Will Ferrell’s You’re Welcome America: A Final Night With George Bush, just broke the house record at the Cort Theatre by bringing in $846,507.05 for the week ending on February 15th. His show has definitely given a boost to the economy, which is greatly in need of advancement at this time. One of Ferrell’s costars is Patrick Ferrell, his younger brother, who plays a secret service man in the show. As can be guessed, though, Patrick’s performance as a security guard has its quirks. Maintaining a solid face-forward demeanor in the “president’s” presence, the guard lets it all hang out when his commander in cheif is out of the office, copping impressive dance moves on the stage.

Faith Prince Joining The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid will be welcoming Faith Prince to the part of Ursula, on Tuesday, April 7, 2009. This incredibly talented actress is considered one of the most versatile on Broadway, and has received numerous Tony Award nominations and won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance in Guys and Dolls in 1992. She also received the Drama Desk Award for the same performance. Broadway’s Chicago Welcomes Back Wopat

The Broadway production of Chicago is now welcoming Tom Wopat back in the role of slick city lawyer Billy Flynn. He will be joining a cast that includes Charlotte d’Amboise as Roxie Hart, Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly, Carol Woods as Matron “Mama” Morton, Scot Davidson as Roxie’s husband Amos, and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine. Wopat will be joining the musical in its 13th year, the musical celebrated its 12th anniversary on November 14, 2008. The musical won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997, as well as awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton, Walter Bobbie won the award for Best Director, Ken Billington won lighting design, and Ann Reinking won an award for her incredible choreography.

Chicago tickets are currently available on Broadway, so be sure to buy yours soon to enjoy the story of Roxie Hart as told by her rival Velma Kelly. Chicago has all you could ask for from a musical, and much more. In addition to a great musical score, some excellent choreography and amazing talent, this musical also has coniving and murdering chorus girls, a sly lawyer, and a morally compromised jail matron.
