The Heavens are Hung in Black: World Premiere

The Ford Theater in Washington, D.C., is now hosting the world premiere of a new play by James Still, celebrating the grand reopening and the bicentennial of President Lincoln’s birth. With the play Still, the director, Stephen Rayne, and the veteran actor, David Selby, are attempting to bring to life the 16th President, without falling prey to the caricature of Lincoln so often presented in plays and documentaries today.

The play covers one of the most siginificant points in Lincoln’s life and career as President, beginning with the death of his eleven-year-old son, William, and ending with the Emancipation Proclaimation. The play follows the most trying period of Lincoln’s life as he struggles to conquer the world around him, and does so through an amazing transformation in his thinking. This new play will only be apearing at the Ford Theatre until March 8, so be sure to get your The Heaven’s are Hung in Black tickets while they are still available.
