In 2009-2010 there will be eight new productions at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. Four of the productions are company premiere, making this year especially exciting. The premieres are for Rossini’s Armida, Verdi’s Attila, Janacek’s From the House of the Dead and Sostakovich’s The Nose. There will be new productions taking place at the Opera which will include be Bizet’s Carmen, Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffman, Thomas’s Hamlet, and Puccini’s Tosca. There are also 18 revival’s from the the company’s repertory taking place. The season will be opening with a new production of Tosca by Luc Bondy, who will be making his house debut.
The Met will also be welcoming many of the world’s greatest singers to the stage in featured roles that they have not sung at the Met before. Olga Borodina will be appearing as Marguerite, Diana Damrau will be singing Marie, Daniell De Niese as Susanna, Natalie Dessay as Ophélie, Renée Fleming as Armida, Elīna Garanča as Niclausse, to name a few.
