Last night the new musical Happiness celebrated its opening night on Broadway. Commisioned and developed by the Lincoln Center Theater, it is a story about a diverse group of New Yorkers, caught in a subway train under strange circumstances. They must reflect on the happiest times of their lives before they can continue their journey. Starring in the show are Ana marie Andricain, Holly Ann Butler, Patrick Cummings, Janet Dickinson, Alan H. Green, Smantha Maza, James Moye, Alessa Neeck, Eric Santagata, Rob Sapp, Alexander Scheitinger, Lina Silver, Idara Victor and Matt Wall.
The production brings together director-choreographer Susan Stroman and book writer John Weidman, returning to the Lincoln Center Theater for the first time since their award-winning musical Contact, which closed in 2002. Making their LCT debuts are lyricist Michael Korie and composer Scott Frankel, whose were nominated for the famous work Grey Gardens. Gardens appeared on stage at the Walter Kerr Theatre from November 2, 2006 to July 29, 2007. Happiness tickets are a great find for any theatergoer who is looking for a great night out. The musical has sets by Thomas Lynch, costumes by William Ivey Long, lighting by Donald Holder, sound design by Scott Lehrer, orchestrations by Bruce Coughlin, and musical direction by Eric Stern.
