Another film celebrity is making the switch to Broadway, and this time it’s Julia Stiles, the vivacious blonde behind the teen classics 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) and Save the Last Dance (2001). Stiles has just been announced as the lead female role for the upcoming Broadway play Oleanna, while Bill Pullman will star alongside Stiles in the David Mamet production. Both Stiles and Pullman are currently playing the roles in Los Angeles at the Mark Taper Forum, where they have been part of L.A.’s run of Oleanna since June 5. The production in Los Angeles will end on July 12, and starting September 29 the play will take place at Broadway’s Golden Theatre. Oleanna will replace the ending Avenue Q at the Golden Theatre and will officially open on October 11.
Mamet’s 1992 play Oleanna tells the story of a relationship between a college professor and a female student, and the Doug Hughes-directed production is a must-see on the Broadway front this fall, especially as it features film star Julia Stiles. The upcoming Oleanna will feature production by Jeffrey Finn, and tickets for the Broadway performances will go on sale July 19.
