Chandra Wilson, Tom Hewitt and Bonnie Langford are out; Samantha Harris, Brent Barrett and Roz Ryan are in! This is Chicago, and the newest crop of talent has officially replaced the old in the award-winning musical. TV personality Samantha Harris (The Insider, Dancing with the Stars) led the pack last night as she took the stage in her Chicago debut as the lead role Roxie Hart in the stunning production, bringing a fresh breath of air to the Broadway running of Chicago at the Ambassador Theatre. Wilson, Hewitt and Langford played their final performances of Chicago on July 5, allowing for the new rotation of Broadway stars to take the reins. Last night marked the first night of the Harris, Barrett and Ryan-led Chicago, and the three talented figures made an explosive first impression on the crowd.
Harris was most certainly the most talked-about part of last night’s Chicago debut, as she stole the lead as the vixen murderess Roxie Hart flawlessly. Harris will continue with her Chicago stint as Hart for a six-week run through August 16, and after the engagement at the Ambassador Theatre she will continue playing the part of Roxie Hart on the Chicago national tour in Greenville, South Carolina, which is scheduled to run from August 18-23 at the Peace Center.
